I got this recipe from a lady at church, after tasting it and absolutely falling in love with it. It is chewy and moist and very delicious.
Caution! This is very addictive.
Chinese Chews
Do not asked me why it is called that. Nobody knows
1/4 tsp. Salt
2/3 cup All-purpose flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 to 1 cup Chopped walnuts
1 Cup of dates
3/4 cup Granulated sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla
2 Large eggs well beaten
Extra Sugar
Combine first 3 ingredients in medium bowl. Mix in sugar, dates and nuts. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Stir well.
Transfer to greased 9 x 9 inch (22 x 22 cm) pan to an 1/2inch thickness.
Bake in350°F (175°C) oven for about 25 minutes until wooden pick inserted
in center comes out clean. Let stand on wire rack for 10 minutes.
Cut into squares while still warm. Let stand in pan until cool.
Dredge in sugar. Cuts into squares.
